Almost 200 law enforcement officers and agents raided nine locations on property belonging to Charles Miller Hilkey Jr., 55. According to a federal complaint, Hilkey allegedly was growing large quantities of marijuana on multiple parcels on Sages, Badger Hill, Patterson Mine, Hoyt Crossing and Tyler-Foote Crossing roads. Wednesday, nearly two dozen people were detained at the various sites and interviewed. Authorities spent the day cutting down marijuana plants and hauling away documents in a U-Haul truck rented for the occasion. Over the course of the day, 602 marijuana plants and 135 pounds of processed marijuana were removed, said Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal. Investigators also recovered 0000 in cash, he said. The number of plants recovered might seem small, especially compared to a recent bust in Penn Valley that netted 8000 marijuana plants and already-processed marijuana with an estimated net weight of about 500 pounds.
